Each tile measures approx 150mm x 150mm (6″ x 6″), when assembled into a set of 5 they measure 750mm by 150mm (30″ by 6″). The edges are virtually square so that the tiles can be laid flush up against each other without the need for grout.
Victorian and Edwardian tiles were a feature of the fireplace and were often vivid in colour with stunning designs. This could be as simple as a coloured embossed tile, to a run of tiles depicting many different scenes or images. From floral to symmetry, to simply unusual. Once the fire was lit these tiles would glow and the picture seen was so enticing.
When the Art Nouveau period arrived this style reached its way to all the accessories of a stylish home which very much included the tiles of the fire. They were awash with elegant curves, shapes and colours and would finish off that wonderful period image.
